Internship Approaching

With just having finished midterms, finals being right around the corner, we’re still entrenched in classes focus and on final projects; it has become easy to forget that our internships are also soon approaching. It’s the mixture of importance and urgency that dictates how much overall preparation will be made before the big day arrives. So, at Year Up, they are constantly reminding us that internship is right around the corner and in doing so they gave a list of tips of how to the most out of our internships.
1.      Set Personal Goals
2.      Have Regular Meetings with your Supervisors
3.      Find a Mentor
4.      Network, Network, Network
5.      Tackle all Tasks with Enthusiasm and a Positive Attitude
6.      Take Initiative
7.      Don’t be Afraid to Ask Questions
8.      Enjoy Yourself
9.      Avoid Negativity
10.  Leave with Tangible Accomplishments
11.  Never Shun a Chance to Learn More About the Company/Industry

12.  Get as Much Exposure as Possible

The reason why I prioritized the list that this way is because I feel like this arrangement is what will be most helpful to me. I know that if I go in knowing what I want to get out of an experience, I will be more focused and ultimately get more out of it. Scheduling regular meeting will remind me that I have to uphold a higher standard that report I will have to be accountable for. I feel that other than the aforementioned tips, finding a good mentor is absolutely paramount in being successful in a career environment, than someone who can explain to the unwritten rules, office politics and secret social hierarchies than somebody who’s been there and done that. Some of these tips seem very similar and so the ones I’ve decided to list first are steps that will inadvertently fulfill the other, so by doing something like networking you will also be taking initiative, asking questions, learning more about the company and gaining exposure.
